GREEN APPLES

GREEN APPLES

3 to 4 years

Green Apples is the room where children learn and further develop important skills in the year before school. Children continue to learn through play and through carefully planned child initiated and adult led activities. Green Apples enjoy weekly music sessions, Forest School, arts and crafts and a multitude of other wonderful activities.

Our Green Apples children meet Geraldine the Giraffe during circle times, who helps the children learn their letters and sounds, and children enjoy 'dough discos' which help strengthen little hands ready for writing. The Green Apples room completes your child's journey with us at Orchard and we are constantly amazed about how far they have come in their progress and development.

Please give us a call if you would like to visit us and see some of these 'milestone moments' taking place in Green Apples.

The Role of the Staff Member

Our staff team consists of only passionate and driven individuals who strive towards developing the bright minds of tomorrow. We’ll work hand-in-hand with you to develop suitable goals for your child. All staff undergo monthly staff meetings, regular training & professional development courses so that their skills are always at the highest possible standard.

We strongly believe that it is our role to inspire children and to engage them in a love of learning that becomes an integral part of their ongoing lives.

We aim to lead the way on how to engage children in meaningful and real learning opportunities that will enhance their lives and support your children to reach their highest potential.

Collaborative Learning

Knowledge construction is a collaborative process which aims to produce new understanding. We believe that knowledge construction should be based on the children's ideas and thoughts. Children are the co-constructors of their knowledge and this process is guided by skilled and knowledgeable teachers who work with the children to identify and extend their interests, within a rich and supportive learning environment that emphasises the free exchange of ideas between children and adults.
Your child's key person and other teaching staff will complete a ‘Famly’ learning journal for your child outlining the week’s highlights and projects. Feel free to write a comment back so staff can include your input into your child’s records.

The Environment

We refer to the children's environment in Green Apples as the ‘third teacher’, as it plays a major role in your child's learning and development. The environment will stimulate children’s minds and capture their imaginations, further engaging them in learning, creativity and socialising. We make use of attractive colours, lights, designs, natural and man-made resources and organise the indoor environment to encourage child independence.
With a 'free flow' classroom and playground, children can choose to take their learning outside and further develop their skills with their choice of activities, perhaps building a roadway with the large building blocks, learning about floating and sinking with the water play or understanding how plants and vegetables grow by exploring the planting troughs. Our bug hotel is always fascinating to investigate and further supports the activities introduced at our Forest School sessions.
